Residents of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, allegedly broke into a private warehouse and looted food supplies and other supplies sent by Nigerians during the 2022 flood.
Bags of rice, garri, noodles, and bottled water were among the supplies provided as donation by concerned locals.
Neighbours invaded the warehouse with pick-up vans and personal vehicles to remove the food when the event happened.
Disperse the people and protect the premises, the state administration sent ot security officials from Doo Akpo security unit.
The food products were leftovers that are being gathered for disposals since they were no longer appropriate for human eating.
According to the state government, which expressed surprise and alarm over the incursion and described it as unnecessary.
According to a statement made by the State Emergency Management Agency, (BYSEMA), neither the agency nor the agency had hoarded the commodities, nor were they fresh food palliatives.
The Agency denonced the identified individuals’ invasion of the warehouse and their attempt to politicize the situation by state opposition group.
As part of its effort to mitigate the consequences of its gasoline subsidy, BYSEMA told residents of the state that it was prepared to handle the distribution of palliatives provided by the federal government.
