Nasboi, a renowned stage name for Nigerian comedian Michael Nasiru Lawal, has disclosed that his first goal in doing comedy sketches was to get Davido’s attention so that he could demostrate his musical abilities.
Nasboi recently stated that his initial goal wasn’t to build a career centred around musical skits but rather to catch Davido’s eye in a video that was posted on his official Instagram page.
Nasboi managed to catch Davido’s attention, but he decided to enjoy the fame and notoriety his skits had brought him.
This unintentionally made him more widely regarded as a comedian, nevertheless.
He purposefully added additional characters to his comic sketches to avoid being labeled in this way and to keep his connections to his musical ambitions.
“Creating skits wasn’t mu goal,” Nasboi said. I started off by trying to get Davido’s attention. I did succeed in doing that, but afterward, I was dismissed as just funny. This belief prevented me from pursuing my music in anyway. In order to retain balance in my sketches given this comic image, I decided to modify and introduce multiple characters.
