Rivers Police have arrested four of her officers in Rivers state in connection with the purported kidnapping of a Port Harcourt Hotel employee, and requested for a ransom to free him.
While traveling to work, Darlington, the hotel employee, was stopped close to Choba and had his belongings inspected for evidence of his guilt.
The four rivers police officers found out where he was working, took him hostage and threatened to kill him if he refuses to cooperate.
They even labeled him a kidnapper and threatened to dump his body in the Choba river after killing him.
The man was restrained by the four police officers and driven around in a car until they eventually led him to a thick bush in Aluu in the IKwerre Local Government Area.
Under false pretenses of being the victim’s father, the Divisional Police Officer disguising himself began negotiating the ransom money with the four police offiers.
When the DPO and his team arrived, they disarmed them and took them into custody despite his entreaties for them to meet him at a place where he would pay the N1 million ransom.
Olatunji Disu, the state commissioner of police, Rivers state, verified the arrest of the four police officers and stated that he is awaiting the victim’s accussations.
