A 63-year-old Lagos woman who lost N6.2 million to fraudsters has become ill. Anu Joseph, the victim’s daughter, revealed that the incident had caused her mother’s high blood pressure.

On June 7, 2023, the woman sent her mother an undisclosed sum of money to take care of an urgent matter. Due to a missing document, she was unable to complete the transaction. Her mother was victimized by scammers after leaving the bank. Due to a missing document, she was unable to finish the transaction.

The woman’s mother went to meet people who provided bank information while traveling with the driver, who also withdrew N3m.

Up until she ran out of money to give, the con artists kept calling her mother and asking her to send money to them. The woman has now returned to her normal state of mind after realizing the scam. Niyi Ogundeyi, the FCID spokesperson, said the investigation is still ongoing but that he has seen the petition and that funding is required for the processes.

He added that rather than searching for people without addresses, court orders are required to track phone numbers on accounts. Banks don’t give court orders again in Lagos, so the police will have to travel to Ibadan to get this court order.

The police are investigating the incident and will keep spreading the message to the public that they should exercise extreme caution in their daily lives.
