On June 29, a two-story hotel appendage collapsed in the Ada-George neighborhood of Port Harcourt, injuring four people who are now receiving medical attention in a hospital.
In Rumuoke by Okilton Junction, off Ada George, a two-story building that belonged to the 1708 Hotel collapsed as its mostly site workers occupants were preparing to return to their jobs for the day while some nearby residents were still asleep.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Emeka Woke, confirmed the incident to reporters and announced that an investigation would be launched to ascertain the underlying cause of the collapse. According to him, the destroyed structure has been cordoned off pending an investigation.
However, he pointed out that rescue efforts were still being made at the scene, primarily to clear the rubble.
