Afro-pop star Zahara, whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana from South Africa has passed away at the age of 36 in a Johannesburg hospital.
Her family revealed her demise on Tuesday in a post on her Instagram profile.
Zizi Kodwa, the South African Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, expressed his sorrow over her demise in a post on his official X account (formerly Tweeter).
My sincere sympathies go out to the Mkutukana family and the music industry in South Africa.
“The family has been working with the government for a while now, Afro-pop star Zahara had a profound and long-standing influence on South African music with her guitar.”
Zahara rose to prominence with her 2011 album “Loliwe,” was admitted to hospital in November as a result of liver issues.
However, things became worse for her last week when it was said that she wasn’t responding.
