During a raid on gang hideouts in the state, police from the Delta State Police Command killed the armourer of a notorious gang.

On June 23, 2023, in the city of Warri, the police executed the operation and found one AK-47 rifle and three magazines on the deceased suspect.

On the day of the incident, it was learned that CSP T.Y. Mahmud, the Divisional Police Officer of “A” Division Warri, led divisional personnel in accordance with the Commissioner of Police’s (CP) Wale Abass’s) instruction to DPOs and Area Commanders on the need to sanitize their jurisdictions by making sure that criminals do not feel comfortable in the state.

Acting on information, the DPO led division agents to a criminal gang’s hideouts on Stadium Road in Warri at around 6:45 p.m. There, the suspect was captured.

He admitted during questioning that he was a member and armorer of the notorious “Bobone” armed robbery gang that terrorized Warri and its surroundings.

He also provided the police with additional information regarding the whereabouts of the other gang members, and he later led the police officers to their hideouts on Chevron Road, where the policemen were severely attacked by his gang members as they approached the hideouts.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, the suspect was injured in his leg during the ensuing melee as he tried to flee, making it impossible for him to do so.

The wounded suspect was taken to the hospital, where he passed away while receiving care, while his gang members managed to flee the scene with gunshot wounds.

In a statement confirming the incident, the state police public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said a manhunt had been started for the evading gang members.
