As Bayelsa decides who becomes her next governor, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has replied to reports coming from Brass Local Government Area in Bayelsa State that its officials are being held captive.
INEC says that it is monitoring the situation. The Commission released a statement on Sunday via a post on its social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
This happened after the way the state’s governor election was handled.
INEC called on the security authorities to expeditiously assist their release, cautioning that the development is damaging to legitimate elections.
“The unfolding situation in Brass Local Government Area” was the statement that was written.
The Commission is keeping a careful eye on the hostage-taking incident involving our staff in Brass LGA, Bayelsa State.
“this undermines the legitimacy of elections, we demand that the security services help to free them right now.”
