The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which declared that its task force against naira abusers and the dollarization of the economy had started operations on February 7, 2024, has pledged to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in naira abuse.
The Commission has stated that it is looking into recordings showing Nigerians misusing the naira and that it will always look into and prosecute anyone who commit such offenses.
The Commission is cognizant of the fact that on February 7, 2024, it launched its Special Task Force against Naira Abusers and Dollarization of the Economy.
This occurs in the midst of criticism directed towards the Commission, specifically after the detention and finding of guilty of contentious transvestite Idris Okuneye, a.k.a. Bobrisky.
Okuneye was sentenced to six months in prison with the option of not paying a fine last Friday after being detained for spraying money at different times, which is considered the misuse of Nigerian national currency.
By unearthing old films of naira abuse instances, the Commission has seen that the public is becoming more conscious of the law that forbids such crimes and is pushing Nigerians to work together more to maintain the pace.
Celebrities implicated in naira misuse are the subject of anti-graft agency investigations, and they would not back down from their “no-sacred-cow mode of operations.”
